Library in Southern Wisconsin

SYNOPSIS

WPRS (Wausau Paranormal Research Society) and WPRC (Wisconsin Paranormal Research Center) was contacted by the director of a library in Southern Wisconsin regarding possible paranormal activity that was occurring there. The director expressed to us that several of his staff has had odd experiences while working in the library over the past several years. He also had extended an opportunity to both our groups to pay a visit to the library in order to interview the staff and collect data through investigative means.

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY THAT WAS REPORTED

In a recorded interview session conducted on June 15th, 2002 at 7:00pm in the library, the staff relayed the following possible paranormal activity to us, which was noted and recorded for investigation purposes.

      1. Sounds of a small child giggling after closing hours on the second floor of the library.

      2. Sounds of a child crying heard on the second floor of the library.

      3. Movement seen out of the corner of your eye on or near the second floor.

      4. Item’s disappearing from employee’s desks only to be found later in other unexplained places.

      5. Whispering sounds emanating from a staircase leading to the second floor.

      6. Footsteps.

      7. Sobbing and sighing sounds heard in the women’s restroom by several staff members after closing hours.

      8. Feeling of presence.

      9. Door bell ringing without explanation

INVESTIGATION RESULTS

The WPRS and the WPRC performed a joint investigation of the library on June 15th, 2002 at 7:30 PM following the interviews. Present at this investigation: WPRS- Roll, Blaschka, Ludwig and Murphy. WPRC- Hendricks. The investigation ended at approximately 11:30 PM. During the investigation an entire sweep of the building with EMF meters showed very few anomalous readings. All investigators in all areas of the library took several photographs, especially the areas in question. Review of all the photographs showed only a few pictures that had some anomalies. Upon further examination we believe the photos to be light refraction/reflection, or light cast from an adjacent window. However, we are unsure as to what has caused this.

Video surveillance was set up on the second floor of the library from roughly 9:30 PM to 11:30 PM. Later upon review no anomalous footage was noted. Infrared “Nightshot” video was set up in the women’s restroom area with an EMF, EMF natural meter and a Geiger counter in full view of the video at close proximity. This vigil was monitored via close circuit television. No anomalies were noted during the taping. In conclusion we did not find any supporting evidence to ascertain whether the library site is truly experiencing paranormal activity. None of our instruments or observations found any evidence of activity. We may return to the library at a future date to investigate the site a second time.
